The Japanese Sentence is the result of several years of study of the Japanese language by Hugh Stewart. Stewart is a retired electronics engineer turned software engineer and company founder. His company became a business partner of IBM.

After retiring, he developed an interest in the Japanese language. After some years of tutoring, he decided to go to Japan to study. While failing eyesight forced him to abandon formal classes, his own studies revealed a structure in the grammar that he realized was not being taught. He continued study on his own and after several years, Stewart evolved a model that organizes the grammar into a logical structure. The result is the basis for this book.

Japanese grammar is unique and very different in many ways from English, but it is logical and well structured. The Japanese Sentence, an Introduction to Japanese Grammar presents Stewart’s model. It is intended for use by both beginners and advanced students to help understand the language.
